Review: I received this book free from the author in exchange for an honest review.
This is the second book in the Blind Barriers Serial by the amazing author Sophie Davis that i have been able to read. I love this series because it is one big bag of mystery. I want these novellas to be longer because right when the story picks up and gets interesting, it ends. So basically I need book three ASAP!! Much like book one, Courting Chaos manages to mesh two different characters POV's flawlessly. I need to know what happens.
I will absolutely be continuing with this series, I need to know what happened to Lark. I would recommend these novellas to mystery readers.

Review #236: Out of the Easy- Ruta Sepetys

Title: Out of the Easy
Author: Ruta Sepetys
Pages: 346
Format: Hardback
Rating: 5/5 Stars
Summary: It’s 1950, and as the French Quarter of New Orleans simmers with secrets, seventeen-year-old Josie Moraine is silently stirring a pot of her own. Known among locals as the daughter of a brothel prostitute, Josie wants more out of life than the Big Easy has to offer.

She devises a plan get out, but a mysterious death in the Quarter leaves Josie tangled in an investigation that will challenge her allegiance to her mother, her conscience, and Willie Woodley, the brusque madam on Conti Street. Josie is caught between the dream of an elite college and a clandestine underworld. New Orleans lures her in her quest for truth, dangling temptation at every turn, and escalating to the ultimate test.

With characters as captivating as those in her internationally bestselling novel Between Shades of Gray, Ruta Sepetys skillfully creates a rich story of secrets, lies, and the haunting reminder that decisions can shape our destiny.
Review: I saw this book being offered as a Travelling Book and I just knew that I needed to sign up and read it. Out of the Easy was unlike any other book I have ever read. It's historical, it's YA but it reads like an adult novel. I loved that the characters were relatable and the writer knew how to make their emotions shine through. I was in tears at the end, but the ending was also happy. I also liked that that it was kind of a murder mystery but set around a coming of age story.
I loved all of these characters, I loved hearing each of their individual stories. I was interested in everyone's backstory and now that the book is over I find myself asking where the characters are now. Josie was an amazing female character, she is smart and strong, she knows what she wants and didn't give up until she got it.
This story is just so different from anything I have read and it was a breath of fresh air. I want more from Ruta Sepetys. I would recommend this to contemporary lovers looking for something a bit different.

Review #235: Caged- Sophie Davis

Title: Caged
Author: Sophie Davis
Pages: 380
Format: Paperback
Rating: 5/5 Stars
Summary: After her brush with death at Ian Crane’s compound, Talia Lyons feels like a prisoner, confined in her childhood home. Plagued with seizures- the result of an unidentified drug injected in her neck by Crane’s men- Talia must put her dream of becoming a Hunter on hold. So when Agency Director McDonough asks Talia to go undercover at the School for the Talented, to find the spy who set the trap for her in Nevada, Talia jumps at the opportunity.

Soon she learns that her new-found freedom comes with a price- working with Donavon on a daily basis. As if that isn’t awkward enough, her former teammate, Erik, also shows up at the School. But at least Talia has the unexpected company of her best friend Penny; to not only assist her in uncovering the spy, but also to deal with the complications that the guys create.

As Talia becomes more entrenched in her assignment, she quickly learns the lengths that the Agency and Mac will go in the name of war. With Crane’s influence spreading, Talia learns that there are few Operatives without ties to the Coalition. Forced to face hard truths and dangerous conclusions, Talia realizes that it is those closest to her who are hiding the biggest secrets. As the task of finding the traitor becomes more problematic, desperation and frustration rule Talia’s world. It becomes clear that Talia can’t do this alone. But who can she trust, when everyone around her is lying?

Review: So I love Sophie Davis and Caged is another reason why. I love her writing style and I love how detailed she makes everything. I did find Caged a bit slower than Talented but I realize that t was to give us backstory and I was still at the edge of my seat. I loved finding out the secrets right along with Talia. I did guess who the spy was and I kind of figured out the bad guy at the end but that didn't make it any less exciting or shocking when I got to those parts.

I feel like a lot more of the characters are showing their true colours. Donavan is still a butt head (hello, I need to know why he did what he did), Mac is turning into a big douche bag (power is going to his head) and Erik is getting sexier everyday. Talia just needs to get her crap together and stop feeling bad for herself.
I just love this series and everything about it. The writing is so amazing and the story is addicting. I can't wait to delve into book three.

Review #234: Sekret- Lindsay Smith

Title: Sekret
Author: Lindsay Smith
Pages: 337
Format: e-Arc
Rating: 4/5 Stars
Summary: An empty mind is a safe mind.

Yulia's father always taught her to hide her thoughts and control her emotions to survive the harsh realities of Soviet Russia. But when she's captured by the KGB and forced to work as a psychic spy with a mission to undermine the U.S. space program, she's thrust into a world of suspicion, deceit, and horrifying power. Yulia quickly realizes she can trust no one--not her KGB superiors or the other operatives vying for her attention--and must rely on her own wits and skills to survive in this world where no SEKRET can stay hidden for long.

Review: I received this book free from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
I really enjoyed this book. I love that it took place in the USSRand had political idols as characters. But what I really loved were the psychic aspects thrown into that area in history. I loved all of the secrets and lies that are found out and that are told. I really like that as the reader we don't know who can be trusted, who is the bad guy? I also enjoyed the academy feel even though some of the characters were "forced" to be there.
I loved Yulia, she was street smart and smart in general, plus she was a kick-ass character. She is a strong woman who was use to both hiding who she is and using her powers to benefit her family. But there is so much more that I want to know about everything and everyone.
Overall I found this book almost perfect. I will absolutely pick up the next book in the series because I am dying for more of these characters and their stories. I would recommend this novel to readers who are interested in the USSR and the history of it as well. Also anyone who likes stories about psychics.

Review #233: The Fawn- Susan Griscom

Title: The Fawn
Author: Susan Griscom
Pages: 302
Format: Ebook
Rating: 5/5 Stars
Summary: After a not-so-wonderful young adulthood—shuffled from one foster home to another—Lena Benton had hoped marriage would be her ticket to happiness. Wedded a year after high school graduation, Lena was certain she’d found her knight. But when Troy Harington’s true colors surface shortly after their glorious day of elopement, things aren’t quite as rosy as Lena had envisioned. When an unforeseen event turns ugly, all she can do is ... run!

But does she run far enough?

Jackson Beaumont prides himself on being a nature-loving, guitar-strumming carefree sort of guy, known for his eagerness to help injured animals find their way back into the wild. When Lena Benton walks into his bar, he’s once again swept off his feet with concern and desire to help the wounded. Will he risk having his heart torn apart again when the memory of the fawn he rescued as a child resurfaces?

18+ due to sexual content and mature subject matter.

This will be a two book series, but both books in The Beaumont Brothers can be read as a standalone.

Review: I received this book free from the author in exchange for an honest review.

This is the second book by the amazing Susan Griscom that I have had the privilege of reading. And again she surpassed my expectations and blew this out of the park. Despite this book having darker subject matter, it was also lighthearted and a romantic read. While reading this novel I had a roller coaster of emotions. I even teared up a bit. And I liked how it showed the difference between a good relationship and a bad one.
Lena was such a damaged character that i couldn't help but to love her. I wanted her to escape and become independent. I'm glad everything worked out for her. Jackson is a great guy. I'm so glad he helped Lena with her more than one aspect in her life. Rufus was my favourite character because much like Jackson he is a protector. I'm really curious to learn more about Brodie, I can't wait until book two.
This was very well written book that keeps the readers heart pounding. I would recommend it to New Adult lovers.

I daydream often and sometimes my daydreams interrupt my daydreams. So I write to remember them. If I didn't write, I think my mind would explode from an overload of fantasy and weirdness. To the annoyance of my friends and family, my characters sometimes become a part of my world. During my childhood, I would frequently get in trouble in school for daydreaming. Eventually, my vivid imagination paid off and I had the privilege of writing and co-directing my sixth-grade class play—a dreadful disaster, though not from my writing, of course, I must blame it on the acting.

I enjoy writing about characters living in small quaint towns and tend to lean toward the unusual and spooky.

My paranormal playing field delves into a different milieu, abandoning vampires and werewolves, but not discounting them. Someday I might like to write a novel about vamps and those furry creatures. But for now I like the bizarre mixed with romance. A strong hero or heroine confronted with extraordinary forces of nature, powers and capabilities gets my blood running hot.

Review #232: Thief- C.L. Stone

Title: Thief
Author: C.L. Stone
Pages: 420
Format: Ebook
Rating: 4/5 Stars
Summary: Kayli Winchester is a dirt-poor girl living out of a hotel, forced to be the parent for a drunken father and teenage brother who she’s desperate to keep in school. The only way she scrapes by is to utilize her one skill: pickpocketing. But even though she’s a thief she has a moral code: no kids or old ladies, only targets who can defend themselves. Not that they see her coming…

Thinking she’s been working under the radar, Kayli has no idea The Academy has been watching and taking notice. Now a team that needs her skill has offered her a way out of her predicament and it’s her last chance: work with them, or face jail time. Kayli resists at first, but slowly the boys reveal they can be trusted. With Marc, the straight man, Raven, the bad-boy Russian, Corey and Brandon the twins as different as night and day, and Axel their stoic leader, there’s a lot Kayli can learn from these Academy guys about living on the edge of the law. If only she can stay on the good side instead of the bad.

Especially when the job they offer her is more than any of them bargained for. After it’s done, the hunters have become the hunted and their target is now after Kayli. The Academy boys do their best to keep her hidden, but a thief like Kayli will never sit still for long.

Meet an all-new Academy team in Thief, the beginning of the Scarab Beetle series.
Warning: This is a new adult series. Readers of the other Academy series may need some caution as this series will contain mature sexual and violent situations and themes.
Review: I received this book free from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
I loved this book! I was looking for an awesome contemporary and I found it in this novel. This book was more than I thought it was going to be. I wasn't expecting all of the secrets and lies that evolved throughout this book. I also loved all of the action, it had me on the edge of my seat the whole book.
I fell in love with all of these characters except Kayli, she made me want to hit her a few times. She was kind of a slut and I get that she was confused about what guy she liked but she needs to choose and cut the others loose not lead them on and most likely their friendships in the future. But who am I to say I wouldn't have done the exact same thing ahaha. Those boys are all hotties.
All in all, I really loved this book and I will absolutely be continuing the series. Also I will be stalking C.L. Stone. I would recommend this book to fans of The Heist Society.

Review #231: Path of Pins- Hannah Kollief

Title: Path of Pins
Author: Hannah Kollief
Pages: 283
Format: ebook
Rating: 3.5 Stars
Summary: "Everything we thought—everything they told us, every secret our supposed guardians shared—was a lie. They told me to find the Rose Queen, that stopping her would halt the catastrophe. They told me that she was trying to kill us all. They were wrong. They lied. And the truth?

The Fey are still dead. My father is still missing. And no one can be trusted.

Now it’s up to me & my best friend Jim to save the world, find my dad, and discover what happened to Roger. First, we have to run from those trying to control us. And then?

There’s only one thing left for me to do:

Kill the demon Koschei.

Make it hurt.

My name is Kat Finnegan, and this is the part where everything burns."

Review: I received this book free from the author in exchange for an honest review.
This is the second book in the Paths series by Hannah Kollief that I have been able to read. I didn't like this one quite as much as the first one. I found it harder to get into this story but once I did I really enjoyed it. My only other complaint was I did find it to be a bit jumpy between the different POV's and the flashbacks. When there were action scenesI really got interested and despite the author killing off some of the characters I couldn't help but to lose myself in the story.
I liked getting more information on these characters. There were a lot to keep track of so by learning even more about them I could relate and remember who was who easier. I do look forward to carry on with this series because I haven't had my fill of the characters yet.
I would recommend this book and series to fantasy lovers. I am really excited to see where it will go from here after that plot twist.

Review #230: The Island- Jen Minkman

Title: The Island
Author: Jen Minkman
Pages: 138
Format: ebook
Rating: 3/5 Stars
Summary: I walk toward the sea. The endless surface of the water extends to the horizon, whichever way I look.

Our world is small. We are on our own, and we only have ourselves to depend on. We rely on the Force deep within us, as taught to us by our forefathers.

If I were to walk westward from here, I would come across a barrier – the Wall. Behind it, there are Fools. At least, that’s what everyone says.

I have never seen one.

Leia lives on the Island, a world in which children leave their parents to take care of themselves when they are ten years old. Across this Island runs a wall that no one has ever crossed. The Fools living behind it are not amenable to reason – they believe in illusions. That’s what The Book says, the only thing left to the Eastern Islanders by their ancestors.

But when a strange man washes ashore and Leia meets a Fool face to face, her life will never be the same. Is what she and her friends believe about the Island really true?

Or is everyone in their world, in fact, a Fool?

(Please note: this novella contains a few references to the famous sci-fi movie Star Wars which are pivotal to the plot. None of the characters in The Island are in any way related to the characters in the movie. Leia is named after one of the ancient heroes of her culture/religion.)
Review: I received this book free from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
I am in love with the cover! The story, not so much. It just didn't do it for me, which is sad because I love dystopian. This book blurb tricked me into reading a book about something I could careless about: Star Wars. Bits and pieces of Star Wars was sprinkled throughout the novel which made me want to scream about how cheesy it was. There was no story or character development. So needless to say I didn't like it and I won't be reading another book by this author unless I know for sure that it isn't about Star Wars.

Review: I received this book free from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
When I saw this short story on Netgalley I knew I needed it because I love The Heist Society novels. I haven't read The Gallagher Girls novels but this makes me want to get them ASAP! This was a very interesting mingling of characters who at first you may believe may become an item but the opposite happens. It's nice to see some of the characters I know already and getting a bit more of their lives now. I can't wait to continue on with this series. I also I hope there are more of these short stories.

Review #228: The Here and Now- Ann Brashares

Title: The Here and Now
Author: Ann Brashares
Pages: 288
Format: e-ARC
Rating: 3/5 Stars
Summary: An unforgettable epic romantic thriller about a girl from the future who might be able to save the world . . . if she lets go of the one thing she’s found to hold on to.

Follow the rules. Remember what happened. Never fall in love.

This is the story of seventeen-year-old Prenna James, who immigrated to New York when she was twelve. Except Prenna didn’t come from a different country. She came from a different time—a future where a mosquito-borne illness has mutated into a pandemic, killing millions and leaving the world in ruins.

Prenna and the others who escaped to the present day must follow a strict set of rules: never reveal where they’re from, never interfere with history, and never, ever be intimate with anyone outside their community. Prenna does as she’s told, believing she can help prevent the plague that will one day ravage the earth.

But everything changes when Prenna falls for Ethan Jarves.

From Ann Brashares, the #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants series, The Here and Now is thrilling, exhilarating, haunting, and heartbreaking—and a must-read novel of the year.
Review: I received this book free from netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
The cover was what made me look more into this novel, then knowing that that Ann Brashares wrote it made me want to desperately. Sadly, this book fell way short for me. I just found it to be a really slow and sometimes confusing read. I feel like there was so much potential for this novel and I keep thinking/ hoping it would pick up, but alas, it never did. I really couldn't connect with these characters and I wasn't a fan of the insta- love.
I really wanted to love this book because it sounded so amazing, but I couldn't. I just wish it had lived up to my expectations.

About this author

Ann Brashares grew up in Chevy Chase, Maryland, with three brothers and attended a Quaker school in the D.C. area called Sidwell Friends. She studied Philosophy at Barnard College, part of Columbia University in New York City. Review #227: Eve & Adam- Michael Grant and Katherine Applegate

Title: Eve & Adam
Author: Michael Grant and KAtherine Applegate
Pages: 291
Format: Hardback
Rating: 4/5 Stars
Summary: And girl created boy…

In the beginning, there was an apple—

And then there was a car crash, a horrible injury, and a hospital. But before Evening Spiker’s head clears a strange boy named Solo is rushing her to her mother’s research facility. There, under the best care available, Eve is left alone to heal.

Just when Eve thinks she will die—not from her injuries, but from boredom—her mother gives her a special project: Create the perfect boy.

Using an amazingly detailed simulation, Eve starts building a boy from the ground up. Eve is creating Adam. And he will be just perfect... won’t he?

Review: The cover of this book is what initially drew me in and then the synopsis sealed the deal. Also that Michael Grant is the co- author of this book made it a must read. I loved the storyline, it is original and filled with twists and turns. I also really like how each chapter is from a different POV. I also found Adam's POV to be extremely interesting.

I did enjoy the characters but I don't fee like there was any character growth, just story growth. I did like being on the journey of discovery that Eve went on. I liked the way the authors make you feel about the "villain" can switch at a minutes notice when new information is revealed. I loved Solo's character, he was so reserved but knew what he wanted and would do whatever he could to get it. Adam was my favourite character because he was the most interesting haha.
This is a great sci- fi read that is both interesting and original. I would love to see more of these characters. I would recommend this novel to sci- fi lovers.

About this author
I was born in a manger and grew up in a log cabin where I read law books by firelight. . . Oh, wait, that wasn't me, that was someones else.

I had a hard childhood. Hard for my parents. Not that bad for me. I was an Army brat, moved around a lot. Then I didn't settle down. I just kept moving. Why? What inner turmoil drove me? Mmmm, I gotta say none. I just have a short attention span. Easily bored.

I'm living in Tiburon, CA right now. How much longer? Don't know.

I've written 150 books. That's right, I said 150. In your face, Stephen King. Granted, mine are shorter than his. And less popular. And less likely to be made into a major motion picture. And I guess i don't play in a band with Dave Barry, either, do I?

Sorry: Salieri complex acting up.

Most of those books -- and by "most" I mean 149 out of 150 -- I wrote with my wife, the lovely, the talented, the eternally hot, Katherine (K.A.) Applegate. We've been together for 29 years. Which is a long time. Looooong time. Sweet lord what a long . . . No babe, I'm not implying anything.

Damn internets: you never know who's reading things.

Anyway, GONE. My goal in writing GONE? To creep you out. To make you stay up all night reading, then roll into school tired the next day so that you totally blow the big test and end up dropping out of school.

GONE. Imagine a world where every adult vanishes in an instant.

Coming soon, a whole other series: BZRK.

Review: HOLY SHIT BALLS!!!
1000000/5 STARS!!

I will post my crazy, can't out words in to feelings review soon.

OMG! I have no words for how amazing this book was. If I could give it a million stars I would. This was the best book I have read this year by far! Not only was I lusting over this amazing cover, I was and am still lusting over the hottest book boyfriend I have ever met!!! If I could I would wish for Lucas to not be a fictional character and for me to have him all to myself! Besides the GOD that is Lucas the story was also amazing. It is a coming of age where you can without a doubt see the growth in characters. But there is so much more to it. The book talks about survivors and grief they face but also how they can encourage others to be just as brave. Argh! I don't even know how to get these feelings out. This is a book that everyone needs to read. It is just a beautiful and beautifully written.
Thank you Tammara Webber <3

Release Day Blitz: Fragile Facade- Sophie Davis

When Raven Ferragamo moved to Washington, D.C. for a fresh start, she never realized that her new life would be someone else's old one.  From the moment she found Lark Kingsley's diary, and the missing diamond heiress' plea for help, there was no turning back.  Raven plunged in to the dark mystery.  She's spending more and more time in Lark's luxury apartment, trying to follow the trail of breadcrumbs that the socialite left behind.
Each passing day reduces the liklihood of finding Lark alive.  From reading the journal and deciphering the clues, Raven believes that someone close to the other girl is involved in her disappearance.  She just needs a little more time to figure out who and why.
A secret boyfriend, the weight of a diamond empire on her shoulders, evidence that could topple her family's ivory tower....Lark Kingsley really does have it all. And now, so does Raven.  She just doesn't know it yet.

Summary: Available in both paperback and e-versions, Baby Gone Bye tells the story of high school senior Gabe Delgado who is trying to trade his bad boy days for clean living. He remembers nothing about the night a mysterious girl loved and left him at a party except ...
there was kind of magic around her. Now, he finds that "magic" in a basket on his doorstep, cooing at him like a happy little bird. Now, Gabe must not only finish school and try for a basketball scholarship but also keep his daughter safe. Her unique abilities make her highly sought after by the Scientific Academy of Merit, a shadowy organization whose goal is to clone the perfect human specimen. Fortunately, Gabe has the help of next door neighbor, Abby, who has some unique abilities of her own.Review: I received this book free from the publisher via netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
Baby Gone Bye was a quick and fun read. It had me on the edge of my seat a few times and but it did leave me asking a few questions. What made Gabe give up his party lifestyle? Why did his mom leave? What happened to Lizzie? What happened to all of the other people that were being experimented on? I have so many unanswered questions which I hope will be answered in a second book? And I want to know what the deal is with the blue rose. Besides leaving me with all of these questions, I liked the paranormal element in this story and I enjoyed the twist on the single parent. Oh! One more question, why was Trevor in two scenes and then we don't hear about him again? Otherwise I liked most if the characters, I thought they were all well developed and I want and need more of their stories!
I will definitely be picking up the next instalment, well if there is one. I would recommend this novel to paranormal lovers who are looking for something a little different.
